Each of us are here for a finite time. We had no control
over when it began, and we have no control over when
it will end.
The things outside of ourselves which matter most to
us can be taken away in an instant. The aspects of our
life we take for granted: breathing, walking, eating,
thinking; can also be lost in an instant, or through
a gradual process of erosion. We have no control over
that.
We can control how we spend each moment of our finite
time. We can control the legacy we leave our friends
and loved ones - even strangers. We can stop for a silent
moment each day and give thanks for the simplest things.
We can remember and honor the victims, survivors, and
heroes of September 11th by saying the things that
matter to the people who matter to us. Now, right
this moment, while we have the time.
