How many times do we just go through the motions of
a day?
The alarm goes off and here is another day of demands
on our time and competition for our attention.
We drift from place to place, meeting our obligations
and running errands in a trance. Here a person
rings up our groceries; there someone hands over the
dry cleaning; yet another serves us lunch as we pass
through a fog.
A countless cast of characters floats through our field
of vision, yet we barely see them.
Wait a minute.
Each person who serves you takes an active role in
meeting your needs. Each of them has a life, a
history, and a reason for being at this place in this
moment. Each has dreams, each has difficulties,
each has value, and if they are distant or even rude,
it might be because so many take them for granted.
They are no less than you. Take a breath and
be thankful that they are willing to serve you.
