What
is man, that thou art mindful of him? Church of England Book of
Prayer
The cover quote from "Miracle
of Mindfulness" came as a gift a few weeks ago.
It's quite remarkable if you let it sink in.
If you are focused on yourself, your
needs, your desires - you cannot be mindful of the needs
of others. If you are focused on your problems or things
you believe are lacking, you cannot be mindful of the
miracle of life that surrounds us all.
Being Mindful. Holding fast to something
or someone in your mind as you go about the details
of your life. When you are mindful, you are aware,
and you are observing or tending to that concept or
person within your thoughts, which can only carry over
to your actions and attitudes.
Being Mindful implies caring. It implies
value. Above all, being mindful implies that you respect
the object of your attention.
We can direct our thoughts; we can
strengthen ourselves and our relationships. We can be
mindful of our loved ones, and by doing so, forge
new bonds or repair old ones.
We can be mindful of the simple
act of setting our feet upon the earth, and by doing
so, come to a new enjoyment of the miracle of life.
This week as I go
about my routine, I will be Mindful
of setting my feet upon the earth,
and of my relationships with those I love.
